Poem: The Insistence of Destinations

Bel Air

The Insistence of Destinations

Staying still is not an option.
The landscape changes.
Seasons of life roar by
like scenery on the highway
a blur,
too fast
to absorb.

So much missed!
Lost to speed
and the insistence of destinations,
lost too often,
forever.

Staying still is not an option,
but perhaps,
more than we know,
there can be a slowing down.
less can be more.
Time can evolve
from master
to companion,
and the seasons can become
lovers on a long summers night,
each caress and whisper
savored like treasure.

  1. This speaks me, a recent college graduate, a lot right now. Seems like all my milestones have flown by! You describe that feeling really well here.
