Poem: The Rules of Love

barn window

The Rules of Love

Love
neglected,
dies.

Love
held captive,
withers.

Love
beaten,
rarely recovers.

Love
nourished,
lives.

Love
trusted,
comes home.

Love
celebrated,
lives forever.

It is that simple,
and that difficult.

About this poem

These thoughts have been wandering in my head for weeks now, but I have failed to find a way to say them. Like most of us, I think I was making it too complicated.

  1. Wonderful thoughts. Your love of “simplicity” shines through. Looking forward to reading more of your work.
