Poem: John 4:14

John 4:14

The spring is long past.
Summer is dying. The last colors
of fall will soon tumble to the ground
leaving the trees barren,
raw, naked, empty.

There is a temptation
to believe this is the end of color,
and yet

it is not.

God is not so fickle,
He does not leave us bereft
of color, or hope, or promise.

His rain falls,
and it is magnificent, full of life
and bright with colors
beyond imagining.

About this poem

This was inspired by my bible reading tonight. The verse reads: “Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.”

The picture was taken just down the street from me here in West Pawlet, VT.
