Poem: The Sky That Awaits You

The Sky That Awaits You

Perhaps you feel trapped,
held from the sky by netting,
a pretty bird in a cage,
on display,
always on display,
ready to sing on command
for the company.

But look closely.
The bars are whisper then,
as afraid of you
and you are of them,
knowing their hold
has no truth,
fearful you will discover your voice
and cut your way free
to the sky
that awaits you.

About this poem.

The things that trap us are rarely as strong as we allow them to be.

The picture was taken at the girl’s soccer field in Granville, NY. It’s worth clicking on to get the full effect.

  1. I just read Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach for the first time yesterday and your poem jumped out at me on top my facebook newsfeed this morning….. synchronicity….the universe is whispering to me a message of courage and confidence.. I believe your poem is a part of that. Thank You.
