Poem: The Devil’s Heat

blue_resize

The Devil’s Heat

You look up from the canyon
and into the clouds
where there is only the smallest patch of blue,

A brief reminder
of the other side,
of the place beyond
that has darkened the sun for so long.

You breathe in,
as if in that breath,
life itself flows
from the sky to your soul,

feel it’s cool promise,
even now, in the devil’s heat.

About this poem.

It could be about the summer weather this week. Or about something deeper.

Reader’s choice.
