Poem: Psalm 121:1

blue

Psalm 121:1

You look up,
your balance slightly off
as you gaze past the city buildings,
past the wires and streetlights,
beyond the grey clouds that have loosed their rain
all day long,

to that slight patch of blue,
to the promise it bears
as you navigate this strange place,
the reminder
that nature rights itself
and chaos and noise and confusion

are not what we are meant for.
And you breathe deeply,
reassured
that despite this time when the walls
close in,
you will rise

to that bright blue patch,
that this world will recede
and the day ahead will leap into view
with color and sunlight
and no one will wonder any longer
why you look into the sky.
