Poem: A Box of Repairs

A Box of Repairs

Some thread.
A bobbin. Buttons.
A few needles.
A thimble.

A box of repairs,
Always missing the color you need,
promising repairs,
not perfection.

About this poem

My family is aware of something I call “The Law of Hardware”, which says no matter how much hardware and how many tools you have accumulated over a lifetime, any repair you want to do requires a trip to the hardware store. Something is always missing.

I think life is similar. When we are broken, and begin to rebuild ourselves, there’s always something missing. The restoration is never perfect. That might bother some, but I think of the end result as more interesting for the imperfections.
