Poem: Put Away the Telescopes

Put Away the Telescopes

Put away the telescopes,
the horizon has been canceled,
replaced by fog.

Sit in place. Listen.
Listen to the wind in the fog.
Listen to children’s voices outside your window.
Listen to your heartbeat.

It is a gift, breath,
a silent secret we ignore too often.
Feel it enter. Feel it leave.
Feel it enter again.

Put away the telescopes
and their brass promises.
There is a time for them, undoubtedly,
and it will come again.

But not today.
Today is for the moment.
Allow it to be enough,
and to remind you
and what
you truly are.
