Almost Right

Matisse was almost right.
“Creativity takes courage” he famously proclaimed
and perhaps it does,
but more than courage

it takes persistence.

In a world that gives lip service
to creativity, the truth remains,
that creativity and challenge are resisted
in a strange fear of both,
a fear of change, a need
for comfort above all.

Far easier to fit in
that push uphill each day
in the simple quest of being one’s self.

About this poem

I have been carrying around that picture for years, sure there was a poem in it. Today that poem finally showed up.
