Poem: A Suitable Place to Pray

A Suitable Place to Pray

It is a bit early for spring.
Not yet February, snow still on the ground
even as the streams rise from an unexpected melt
and the willows show the first greening,
unexpected color in a monochrome season.

You are a figure on the side of the road,
staring at the early buds as they drape towards the creek,
feeling the same unexpected splash of color
in the off season, a bit alarming, a bit encouraging,
unsure if it is sustainable, but certainly

a suitable place to pray.

About this poem.

A poem about the seasons in Vermont. A poem about seasons in our life, my own in partiular which have never quite run according to the calendar.

The picture was taken not far from my house in West Pawlet, VT.

  1. I live a half mile from the Atlantic Ocean. I love going over to the ocean or some place in nature to pray. I love looking at God’s creation and sharing my thoughts with God in those special places. May God bless! Dr. Jim Brown
