Poem: Seeing in The Dark

Seeing in the Dark

It is a magical power
given to cats and superheros,
that ability
to see in the dark,

to gather all the available light
and find your way,
no,
more,
to see the beauty and colors
others miss in the night,
to dance,
never afraid of bumping the furniture,
sure and full of brightness
that comes from somewhere else,
God,
or love,
or madness

Or perhaps
all three.

About this poem.

I’ve always admired those who saw good things in bad times. It’s a special quality, a true seeing, because there are good things, even in the worst of times. Beauties and joys and evidence of love. But only if we can see them.

The picture was taken at the Marble Museum in Proctor Vermont. It really wasn’t that dark, but the settings on the camera made it appear that dark, capturing the mood I wanted for this poem. Even though I didn’t know it at the time.
