Infernal Devices
Don’t try to follow the gears,
to find the path
or where it leads.
It is madness,
a Rube Goldberg device
with twists and turns
devised by God and Satan
as they play their celestial
game of chess.
About this poem
I never seem to end up writing the poem I intend to write. Or have the life I intend to have. There must be a reason.
Tom

Your “about this poem” makes an amazing poem. It hit me in the gut.
Yeah, it might be called the Holy Spirit that leads “us that belong to Him” …. can’t wait for the FINAL Checkmate. At least we know how it ends and the Lord has given us that accept it, the gift of being active participants but I would NEVER call us pawns….of course you hopefully didn’t want to extrapolate your poems’ meaning that far. 🙂
I pretty much give up giving meaning to my poems after I write then. From that point onward, the poem becomes the reader’s to create their own meaning out of my words, that they extrapolate based on my words, and their own life experiences and heart.
Ah but you post your words to be read and understood, right? Otherwise, why share your poems. All interesting. The poem really had me thinking about the “game of thrones”…..and the checks throughout history and the final check and mate at the cross and then the tomb.
I write them mostly to work things in my head and heart out. Writing helps me that way.
I do post them to be read. A few friends, who know where my head and heart are, will likely fully understand the poem. But truly, once I post it, I don’t expect understanding. I just release it and see whose heartstrings it does (or doesn’t) plucks and whatever they get out of it…. is fine.
It’s working as does the rest of your poetry! 🙂
