All Things Do Not Heal
They tell me
wreckage from the storm
will eventually be cleared away,
that time and God and hard work
will take the debris out to sea
and all will become the same.
That’s not my experience.
No,
Some storms are too much for time
and the hard work of salvage.
The damage leaves us far too weak
to stand safely on our own.
It appears God had the right idea all along.
When we are too broken, it is time
to make all things new
and begin again.
About the poem
The picture was taken in Asbury Park, where the remnants of Hurricane Sandy remain. That was 2017.
Revelations 21:5a: 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”
