Poem: Ode to a Second Marriage

Ode to a Second Marriage

I laugh more.
I fear less.
Mornings have meaning.
I have a hand to hold.
I am held.
I can fail (and do) without counting the cost
in new wounds.
I am surrounded
by beauty.
I learn. Constantly.
I am challenged to think
more and better and in new ways.
I am encouraged, without a price to pay.
I have a reason to smile
every time she enters a room.

And I do.

It is a safe place I live in.
A new thing for an old man,
forcing me, or perhaps a better word is
allowing me
to slowly become more myself
than I have ever been.

About this poem.

We’ve been married just two and a half years. I consider myself blessed.

The picture was taken in the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas.
