Beer on the Boardwalk
A beer on the boardwalk,
bright green against bleached concrete.
Left half finished after a night of too much.
A few feet away, the vomit,
the aftermath,
left to bake in the sun.
the story of a night come and gone.
You pick up the bottle and toss it in the garbage,
remembering the nights in your own past
you would rather forget, grateful
for the receptacles that take your trash
and make them disappear like God’s grace on the beach.
About this poem.
Most of us have times in our life we’d rather forget, times that make you grateful for grace.
