Poem: A Graceful Exit

081

A Graceful Exit

Never mind the signs
that surround you,
mock you even,
knowing
it is not as easy
as their cheery red lights
would have you believe.

They know
you are not the type
to cause a scene,
to beak down doors
or shatter windows
in an explosion of escape.

But you will escape.
Be sure of that.
The pressure builds
and your very form changes
until ghost-like,
you slip under the door,
leaving nothing behind,
not even a whisper.

About this poem

Some of us escape with a flourish. And others of us escape slowly, so slowly no one notices it’s happening, until we’re gone.
