Poem: The Return of Light

The Return of Light

You are my winter solstice,
the return of light
joy in a world too long dark.

About this poem.

Today is the winter solstice. At last the days start to grow longer again. Of course the ancients celebrated it. It’s a wonder.

Two years into our marriage, I still marvel at the joy the woman I love brings me. However, like many of my poems, this can be read as a love poem, or a spiritual poem. Life is like that.

I did not mean to make this a haiku. It’s just the way it came out. Still, there it is.

The picture was taken at the edge of the salt marshes in Provincetown, MA.
