Knowledge and the Coming Storm
You stop, even as the storm approaches.
Black clouds over the dunes,
heat and moisture redolent in the air.
Thunder. A ways away, but loud enough
you know the lightning and wind are not far,
just out of sight, but near enough.
There is a temptation to run. But you are old
enough to know there is no outrunning weather
when it is nearly atop of you. You will get wet,
no matter what. You will be whipped by wind.
And too this. You will survive.
And that knowledge changes
everything.
