Neccesary Art
Monet is always safe.
A place to land your eye and soul
in soft colors and perfect brush strokes.
Soft. Forgiving.
Van Gogh is less so. Vibrant,
A little mad. A little dangerous,
His brush wreaked power and anger
even in fields of wheat blowing in the wind.
One draws me. The other brings me peace.
Both are neccesary.
About this poem
I am still dwelling on Rothko’s quote: “Silence is so accurate.”. (From yesterday’s poem)
I am grateful to be living in an era with a history of art. Each period and movement bringing me something I need at certain places in my life. I feel the same way about music. What do I need in my half mad life? I can call on it like a lover in need.
The painting is Monet’s “Iris’ by the Pond”.
Be well. Travel wisely,
Tom
