Poem: The Vaguest of Ideas

The Vaguest of Ideas

it is only one or two ropes
that hold the boat to the pier,
well worn but still strong
enough to survive the storms
and hold you close enough,
to seperate you from the sea
until the time you are ready to set off,
and you deftly undo the knots
and toss the remainder on deck,
free to find new destinations
with only the vaguest of ideas what they might be.

About this poem.

Lots of change here in the Atkins household. Not just the marriage of my daughter, but I am making change to my work as well. I am taking on a second church, and leaving my hospice work where I have served for seven good years.

The change happened fast. A call on Wednesday from the Methodist District Superintendent. “Would you consider…..” and then a visit with the folks from the church the next night, and making the decision that night. And just like that I began releasing the ropes of one life and take on another.

As I told the District Superintendent, either the Holy Spirit was at work, or madness took over. We’ll soon know which is was. So, off on another journey, with no idea where I am going. One of the things I love about God is that when we are open to him, we are never bored.

Be well. Make good choices.

Tom

PS: The pcture was taken in Provincetown, Mass.
