Priest of Silence
It is not the stuff of modern medicine.
More a pinch of this and a smidge of that.
More memory than science.
More like love or art or the ability
to simply be in a world of motion and noise.
You have spent more time emptying out
than accumulating. Less a builder
than a priest of the stillness that lets God in.
Let the pain be. Let the love be.
Let yourself feel lost for a time.
Let the medicine work.
Trust your place in it all
even when you do not see it;
even when you cannot feel it,
you have a place
only you can fill.
About this poem.
A poem about place. A poem about purpose. A poem about old wisdom. A love poem. Poetry is never about one thing.
The photograph was taken at the Hancock Shaker Village near Pittsfield, Mass.
Be well. Travel wisely,
