Flashes of Light in the Night
Trees silhouette against the evening sky.
Day almost done.
You are lost in a reverie.
Quiet.
The air turns cold
as the darkness swallows the landscape.
The air turns cold
as your thoughts turn melancholy,
a natural tendency, offset with laughter
that hides the darkness,
effective
protective coloration.
About this poem.
My wife and I were driving back from the movies last night (Knives Out, wonderful!) and we were struck by the black silhouettes of trees against the dusky sky. It was magnificent and I determined to write a poem with that image this morning.
Here it is.
