Poem: The Time That Matters

The Time That Matters

Come. Sit with me
in the silence of love;
in the place where proximity and touch
speak loudest. Where certainty
and promises kept settle around us
like a prayer.

I have had the things.
I have accomplished and done.
None of it matches the moments
I gazed upon your face,
close as the lovers
we were destined to be.

About this poem.

A love poem, of course. Love poems are the only poems that are about one thing.

The photograph was taken at the American Frontier Museum in Staunton, Virginia.
