A Seduction of Details
Early in the morning you wake
face to face with the one you love,
close enough you feel her warmth
and see, not the whole, but the details,
a tendril of hair,
her eyelashes fluttering in dream,
the soft skin of her brow.
All the world is in this,
in the close things of the world,
tiny details that overwhelm you with the magic
of the universe without shouting.
The whisper of dawn,
each line a reminder of love,
a seduction of details
while she sleeps.
About this poem
Well duh, a love poem. But also a poem about how the world can be captured in details. Nothing in life has only one meaning, it seems. Least of all, poetry.
