Poem: The Winter Within

The Winter Within

Minus eight and the air takes your breath away.
The sky slowly greys. Snow, more of it, is coming.
Twelve years here and it is home, this cold,
raw, beautiful and dangerous.

It is best seen from windows, from a place of warmth,
blankets and the flames of heat surrounding you,
her arms around you, protection
from the winter within.
